Yes I did. I threw all of those essential oils in the trash.
Have I lost my mind?
Given up on natural health and cleaning?
Abandoned my thrifty lifestyle?
No, no, and no.
So why did I do it? The best way for me to explain is with this comparison.
Imagine, if you will:
You’re a kid on a hot summer day. Your folks are watching their budget, so your mom picks up a tub of generic ice cream at the grocery store. It’s cold, and it tastes fine. You have a couple of scoops after school and it hits the spot.
Then you go to a friend’s house and they make their own ice cream. It’s dense, rich, creamy, and decadent–and they can make any tasty combination that strikes their fancy. It’s completely different from the stuff you had at home, even though they’re both called ice cream.
That’s what my experience has been like, switching from retail-brand essential oils to therapeutic-grade oils.
Note: the point of this post is not to single out any brands or be disparaging in any way. I simply want to explain why I exclusively recommend one specific brand of essential oils.
My favorite oils are of superior quality, and the plants are sourced from their native environments where they grow best. This results in premium oils AND supports local economies all over the world. Every batch of their essential oils undergoes seven different tests by a third-party laboratory to ensure that they are absolutely pure, free of pesticides and chemicals, and above and beyond organic standards.
I can tell the difference when I use these oils. They are more potent than store brands, so I use less. This means the bottles last longer and the cost-per-use is drastically lower.
We use our essential oils every day. They scent the air instead of candles, they help with the kids’ occasional skin irritations, and I put them in our homemade cleaners.
Would you be comfortable with your toddler using 409 or Fantastik? I have no worries when Little Peanut uses my natural All-Purpose Cleaner or takes a bite of homemade First-Aid Cream (sigh). That’s because I know these oils are pure and unadulterated. Of course, I don’t let her play with the open bottles, and I always dilute with a carrier oil when applying on the kids. Be smart and use good judgement!
Yes, I threw my essential oils away. And I am SO glad that I did.
